Marine Cargo & Inland Transit

Marine Cargo Insurance covers the shipments of goods from the port of departure to the port of arrival, or destination specified under the terms of the contract and together with Inland Transit cover can provide for conveyance by land, sea or air, including road, rail and inland waterway.

The coverage applies generally in accordance with the Institute Cargo Clauses from a wide range of causes and can be extended to included an element of inland transit where required.

Coverage can provide for full replacement value of the cargo or shipment following loss or damage at sea including Concealed Damage or Shortages or deliberate damage as a result of Governmental Authorities acting in the interests of public welfare or to prevent or mitigate pollution.

Coverage may be on a Constructive Total Loss basis or subject to Salvage and is arranged per shipment or on a schedule of shipments.

In some cases the Shipping Company may be asked to provide coverage; however the Insured may not wish to be dependent upon the co-operation of a third party in claiming for lost or damaged goods and should consider carefully taking out broader insurance with their own insurer.
